View Full Version : Why did you not vote for Harry Browne?

In 2000 you had Al Gore, George Bush and Libertarian candidate Harry Browne.

What did Harry Browne stand for? No more income tax, end to the Drug War, no war, etc. Pretty much everything that Ron Paul is running on now.

So, if you did not vote for Harry Browne in 2000 (or Michael Badnarik in 2004) why not?

I voted for Harry Browne in '96 and 2000. And convinced my mother too also. The only presidential votes I've made in my life.

Once you go libertarian. you don't go back.

You're assuming nobody voted for Harry Browne in 2000. I did, because I'd just turned 18 the month before the election.

In 2004 I didn't vote because I hated Bush and Kerry both, didn't believe my vote mattered to anybody, hated the entire political process and had real questions regarding whether or not I even believed that Democracy was a justifiable system of government, and I felt like staying home because November in Alaska is cold.

I had just turned 18 and was a sheep, led to the republican party by my parents. I finally woke up about 8 months ago.

I didn't want Al Gore to win and Bush seemed to be fairly decent.. with his "no nation building" argument..

I voted for Harry Browne in 2000; I left the presidential spot blank in 2004 because Badnarik didn't support the Constitution with regard to my right to a civil jury trial in medical malpractice cases and didn't understand that the federal government has no business imposing tort "reform" on the states. Fortunately, Ron Paul understands the role of the federal government.

I did vote for Harry Browne (twice) and for Michael Badnarik. How much better would things be right now if they had won?

Because I couldn't and still can't vote. 2010 is my first election year, and I'll make sure to pick a college where a Ron Paul Republican is running.

I voted for Browne and Badnarik. I also voted for Paul in '88.

In fact, I only removed my Badnarik '04 bumper sticker to replace it with a Ron Paul bumper sticker. ;)

Browne in 2000, Badnarick in 2004, Paul in 2008.

RIP Harry Browne, you would have loved to have seen this campaign!

I mainly asked to show people that these would be the reasons people won't vote for Ron Paul in 2008 if he's on a third party ticket.

Good thing I didn't claim to be either of those things. :) I can't be blamed in 2004 though, I was kicked out of bed and woken up.

I voted for Bush in 2000, and it seemed like a good idea. It actually was considering the platform he ran on. i was seriously concerned about NCLB that he instituted in Texas, and now I know those concerns were well founded. Most of what happened after 2002 was definitely not predictable from 2000. I don't plan on voting Democrat or Republican ever again just because of the party. I would definitely vote for a guy like Ron Paul in other offices, I just have to be a much more informed voter.

I too voted for Harry Browne in 96 and 2000. This is the only other presidential campaign I have given time and money to. And none as significantly as this one on either front. For a change, I see that this one is worth the effort. This is so much more than a presidential campaign and I hope everyone here understands that. We have to remain strong together after this campaign, regardless of the outcome, to win our country back. It's been under attack for 150 years now and a few months of effort isn't going to get everything straight. This is a lifelong commitment.

I voted for Nader because I thought he had the best chance to penetrate into the two party Crimocracy. I wanted to see someone become the pin prick that pops their balloon.

In 04 I corrected my mistake and voted on my primary principles for Bednarik.

This all said, I think I learned more from Harry Browne than just about anyone else in my entire life. God rest his soul.

What a great man and a great American patriot.

I was not elegible to vote in 2000.

Buchanan got 2% of the vote that year running as a Reform Party candidate, didn't he? Surely at least a few of the posters on this forum voted for him.

I voted for Nader in 2000 because he was the most prominent anti-establishment candidate. He did actually campaign a little and had a chance to get some measurable votes. I did NOT want Bush to get in because I knew exactly where it would go, but there's no way I would contribute my vote to Al Gore, either.

In 2004, Nader had gone completely off the political spectrum to some really outlandish special interest place that I simply could not go. I considered voting Libertarian, but I have never in my entire life even seen an advertisement for the Libertarian Party. I had little confidence that they were making much of an impact. So, in 2004 I voted my conscience. I wrote in "No Confidence" on my ballot.

I'd never heard of them before, and they didn't have enough political history to accurately judge them by in my opinion at the time. As we see every day with the Huckster & others stealing Paul's positions - anyone can *say* what they stand for, but you need the voting history to *see* what they *really* stand for.

Harry Browne was pro-choice; that's a dealbreaker for me. I voted Buchanan on the Reform ticket in 2000.
