Here's how that goes.

Gravel: "Drugs aren't dangerous"
Paul: "I agree. The war on drugs is a sham!"
Gravel: *lights one up, passes*
-debate over-

This is old footage. Mike Gravel passed away in November (or, if he didn't, his campaign did).

title slightly misleading - he's talking more about having a dialog than a debate. like, a positive discussion about the future of the country.

Where would it be aired, Public Access Channel? Right after Wayne's World? I fear the MSM wouldn't give it the time of day.

Gravel did it for attention. This would be worse than Howard Dean's scream if it happened.

Don't get me wrong, I love Gravel. But I hate this idea.

One basic rule of politics is you don't debate down because you have nothing to gain and potentially a lot to lose (not that I think Gravel would outclass Paul; I'm just saying it's the general rule). Even most people who are paying close attention probably don't even know that Gravel is still in the race. And the media tried to portray it last year like he and Ron had an equal chance to win -- zero. So why reinforce that perception? Paul and Gravel are in different universes at this point in terms of being viable.

older than rocks. besides the "get together" was scheduled just a short time ago, but from what I recall, Gravel had to cancel his appearance due to a flu or something like that.

yeah, Gravel is still in the race, but he's spending most of his time on college campuses begging for cash... airing his one man debates on his website

I like Gravel, but if we go anywhere near him, they will say we are at his level.

What do you mean get the word out? Anyone who thinks Ron Paul would benefit from such a debate shouldn't have thread starting capabilities...

Ron and Mike are my two favorite candidates so i would love to hear them chat. I feel they are the most honest.

Why should we acknowledge his request? Ron Paul should be focusing on winning the REPUBLICAN nomination.

Paul should not waste his time with that ass clown.

While I agree that Ron Paul's time is too valuable to spend on something that would garner so few votes, Gravel is no ass clown - he has different economic ideas from Paul, but he is one of precious few politicians interested in truly "ending the madness" of imperialism, preemptive war, the war on drugs, big brother, etc. He may be a liberal, but he's a good man and an ally nonetheless.

What would be interesting is to hear them discuss Gravel's direct democracy idea, for one thing.

Isnt that called a democracy? This country is a republic, not a democracy. Its a common misconception but still true. Otherwise you are advocating a democratic society. Ron Paul is a *republic*an. Not a *democra*ct. Get it?

no kidding...Nobody is this stupid. if RP would even consider this I would bolt and realize this whole campaign was like a carrot dangling from a stick, which I don't think it is.

Doesnt sound like he wants to debate, sounds like he just wants to talk to him in a discussion format. Sounds like a a great idea exchange, but it wont do a thing for Dr Paul's campaign.

I'm an ardent Ron Paul supporter, but I'll never dismiss a politician who isn't afraid to name names. mike gravel is a breath of fresh air to American politics. it's a crime that he was never given a fair chance. I'll always remember this fine man.

No good can ever come out of two intelligent politicians discussing policies in a public arena.

It would be a good idea except for the fact that Gravel usually just comes off as an angry old man.
