Ron Paul stated that the price of oil has run flat when compared to gold. If we were on the gold standard right now, gasoline would be 26 cents per gallon. $3.00 to fill up your tank as opposed to $40 or more.

Catch the attention of people when you are canvassing by mentioning this little fact and the fact that Ron Paul and the constitution want us on the Gold standard. People are very motived by their pocket books.

BTW: thanks to JohnB at the RPwr for the heads up on this.

That may be true but if we were on the gold standard a decent salary would probably be $5-10k a year instead of $50-60k a year. Not to say the fiat currency is good just that there is more to the story than you are saying.

There really isn't a "but" here.

This would be a good thing.

You are absolutely right. Unfortunately, we are trying to secure votes. Telling folks that gas would be 26 cents a gallon turns heads and gets their attention. Once you have their attention, then you can get them to listen to the message.

Agreed, I was just pointing out that people wouldn't be making current salaries and paying 25 cents a gallon for gas.

That's fair. It is a really good way to point out inflation especially to older people who remember 25 cent gas.

While you're technically right, the others in this thread are too. The price of oil won't drop relative to wages, so we'll still be paying a lot at the pump.

This all seems like a topic that should just be dropped by RP.

Actually, inflations destroys because prices go up, yet wages can't keep up.

So if we were on a gold standard, we would be paying a lower percentage of wages for gas.

Gas would be much more affordable on a gold standard, or any standard, just something to measure the value of 'a dollar'.

If people saved this would be a problem since their savings would be 11X less. But everyone is in debt and going backwards.
The fact that the Government gets to print money and borrow money and then spend it on crazy things is the problem. We gave them a credit card and then gave them another one and they ran it up to it's limit (they are almost done).
And Ron Paul wants to go BACK to the gold standard.
No one likes a dishonest dollar or country.
Show them a picture of a old dollar "payable to the bearer on demand" in gold or silver.
"This certifies that there is on deposit"...
