I've been a Republican and a political junkie most of my life. I don't profess to be an expert on politics, but I have to believe that the Republican Party has no intention of running any of their current candidates against the Democrats.
Unless he falters greatly, Barack O'bama will be the Democratic nominee. O'bama is a naive idealist who delivers very persuasive "feel-good" speeches, but he cannot fulfill the litany of promises that he uses to charm his followers. Even if he could, it would lead this nation further down the path to Socialism.
No candidate can surpass Ron Paul's honor and integrity. However, he does not posses the "packaging" that will be needed by the ultimate contender. In fact, I honestly don't think Dr. Paul wants to be President as much as others want him to be President. He could still be very effective as a future offical in the next administration, and he'd probably prefer such a role.
I suspect that the only hope for the GOP now is to go back to their fundamental basics, produce a very marketable candidate, and begin to espouse a "Ron Paul -esque" message. Hopefully, truth will ultimately prevail if the neocons can muster enough integrity to give it a voice once again.
