This post is about how winning just 48 Congressional seats -- in the 24 least populated States -- could make Dr. Paul President.

Let's just pretend for a moment that Dr. Paul isn't just planning to be an annoyance to the errant Republican Party.

Let's say all the hard work that might not be quite in time for Super Tuesday (building contributor base, recruiting 180,000 precinct chairs) -- could very well be ready in time for the general election.

So what happens if Dr. Paul runs 3rd party (or Independent) and carries a handful of States so that neither the Democrat nor the Republican gets 270 electoral votes?

Anyone?

Then, the election is decided in the House of Representatives.

Well, how does that work? All the Congressmen vote and the top vote getter wins?

Well, no.

Each State gets 1 vote. Alaska gets 1 vote. California gets 1 vote. And the vote of each State is decided by the vote of its Congressional delegation.

So, in Alaska -- that vote is decided by 1 person. Same in say, Montana. In fact -- in 7 states, 1 person decides. In 10 states, you need the vote of 2 Reps. In 7 more states -- you need 3.

Well, fact is -- 24 of the 26 States needed for victory have 5 Congresspersons or less. That means it takes 3 or fewer people in each of those States to support Dr. Paul.

A little basic math shows that the votes of 48 Reps in 24 States delivers 24 votes out of the 26 needed.

And the Congresspersons who vote? The NEW ONES -- the ones that were just elected!

If we can focus on getting Congressional candidates in the LEAST populous states -- we can at least BLOCK the winner in the House, and maybe win it all.

Think about it.

They want to use their RULES to marginalize us? Let's use their RULES to win.

But those new electees won't take office until later.

Yes they will. The new electees are the ones who vote. In fact, it's their first order of business after they are sworn in.

It could also help Ron Paul be a great president.

Is the math correct about this, let alone the electoral college rules?
The above scenario opens up possibilities! In the past i had been thinking
if the red and blue states split down the middle, say 269 to 269, then what
happens next? Or if the race goes three-way or four-way? Right now the DNC
is going after mcCain for bursting through his own McCain/Feingold cap..

I don't think it's right.

The House votes for the PResident. The Senate votes for the Vice PResident.

That's how the Constitution writes it.

I don't know of anywhere in the Constitution where it says the Reps in the house are only down to 1 per state though.
