Why does the media make a big deal about NATIONAL polls? Isn't it the electoral college that matters? Given that it is the primaries why not do a delegate poll by taking all the state by state polls and adding up delegates(assuming these are accurate as well)?

Its also a very simple way of giving statistics. Far less hassle than compiling all the separate polls.

The media is the biggest lobby in Washington. They literally own Washington. Since the media is owned by a handful of large corporations and THEY choose who they talk about on national television, a consequence of that is their name recognition increases; when people are polled asking who they're voting for President, and the only way they hear about Presidential candidates is through the media, they'll naturally choose the candidate that they hear/see in the media the most and, therefore, are more familiar with their policy position along with any stupid story-line the media wishes to make up, and they vote for whom they like more. The media is really good at perpetuating the "Us vs. Them" mentality in politics.

That's why they look at the polls because they have a direct impact on them and can therefore justify using them as some point of legitmacy without being way to obvious (which it is to me). The "Rudy Giuliani Front-Runner Status" is a hype-bubble blown up by the media and you're about to see it burst. Wasn't Fred Thompsona "front-runner" and second in the polls??

If the mainstream media's claim that they only report front-runners was true they would base it off of the results of the primaries that already occurred.

It's pretty easy, take corporate media lobbyist bribes and they'll paint your name all over the globe. Don't play the game they'll hardly talk about you, when they do they speak ill of you and your supporters and, thus, you'll have low poll numbers.
