They aren't just in nursing homes and retirement homes, they're also at Bingo at the VFW.

Where else?

They're at the nursing home watching Fox News in front of the heater. They love McCain because he has the same color hair they do. They have never seen or heard of Ron Paul.

They're at home when you knock on their door canvassing. They're in their cars when you drive by sign-waving. They're in front of their TV's when they see news stories about the crazy supporters of Ron Paul.

Walking laps around the inside of malls, or playing bingo at Wal Mart early in the morning.

Oh yeah, and at seafood restaurants before 5 pm.

There is something I have been using quite a bit to reach elderly voters and it has worked quite well. I get up early in the morning during the week and hit the convenience stores, diners, fast food places, etc - anywhere that sells coffee, has papers and let's the elderly congregate to gossip. I always show up, introduce myself, shake hands, give out some info and answer questions. These folks are typically very nice and receptive and thrilled to see a "youngin" involved with politics. They usually have a ton of questions so be sure to answer them all respectfully and be ready to listen to a lot of stories. Brush up on your history so you can relate to them and even compare Dr. Paul to other notables from the past who have had a positive impact in politics.

And Church. And the bank and grocery store the day they get their SS checks. And local community events - rummage sales, bake sales, craft fairs, festivals, pancake breakfasts, citizens/residents group meetings, town hall meetings, Sunday morning breakfasts.

always offer to take some people to the polls. Remember, some of these folks can no longer drive or it may be icy when it comes time to vote. Just make sure that they know they can call you on election day if they have no other way to the polls.

Why we don't emphasize Church and Bingo hall outreach is beyond me. I've flyered a few Church lots, but few others seem interested in doing the same.

Churches, retirement homes, community events, American legion, Elks, VFW, Rotary Club, etc. RV Parks, RV clubs.

This group is highly likely to vote for who a friend, relative, or pastor tells them is good.

Bridge clubs are almost entirely this demographic now.

Also good - find out when your local family style restaurants have specials for the over 60 crowd. I guarantee they flock to those. Some grocery stores also have senior days when everyone with an AARP card gets special deals. Flier the heck out of their cars.

Many many many of them... are listening to Rush Limbaugh....

I spoke briefly to a woman in her 80s this afternoon.

She was a huge Rush Limbaugh listener. Was a special member that paid a certain amount every month or something.

She hates McCain. Hates Huckabee... Really liked Thompson.. but thinks Romney and Giuliani are the front runners.

I didn't get much chance to talk about Ron Paul. But to my surprise.. when I mentioned how he was a true conservative.. she agreed.. She knew who he was... was familiar with his record.

It's creepy.. but Rush Limbaugh... with nothing more than a high school diploma and a big mouth... somehow commands the attention and loyalty of this country's elders.

Maybe it's the prescription drug common interest...

They are

1. At the mall when it first opens
2. Stopping at McDonald's or Burger King for a coffee that lasts 2 hours
3. At the Grocery store using EVERY coupon known to man
4. watching the MSM and believing every word of it

we honestly need a sound plan to break the older vote...we still don't have a very effective plan yet

They AREN'T any different then they were when they were younger.

My parents were just as conservative when they were younger as older. etc etc etc

A lot of the older people are liberals. That is why we have the problems we have. It isn't because they are older or younger. Its just who they are. Basically, not responsible for the bad things they cause.
