I'm asking here how to best deal with the trolls. They obviously are a deterent to our hard work. We can't have them in our forums messing us up and then they claim, "What about free speech" all the while their candidate wants to supress us. We can't let stupid trolls walk all over us, can we?

I think the mods should a make a troll fourm so that all the trolls can be spam each other in there new sub forum, maybe i dont know if that will work. And your right.

Though all the winds of doctrine were let loose to play upon the earth, so Truth be in the field, we do injuriously by licensing and prohibiting to misdoubt her strength. Let her and Falsehood grapple; who ever knew Truth put to the worse, in a free and open encounter.

:D I agree with this. Go Milton!

The big problem is that in here their is a new definition...

Troll: Someone I disagree with, or disagrees with me.

Personally I like poking them with a sharp stick.
Other that that they keep me on my toes.
If we all agreed on everything this would be nothing but an Amen Chorus.
Differing opinion is good for us, dissent and division are not. Not everyone that disagrees is a Troll.

That said, we have many good troll hunters on board.

Besides, I can't help thinking of the former Thompson supporter who came to us because the moment he started asking questions over at Huck's army, he was instantly banned. We answered his questions. Our win.

Can we handle adversity or are we merely sheeple?

Just ignoring them is probably not a good idea. Many other posters don't notice they are trolls, and assume they are part of the real discussion in this forum.

Ignore. Let them have freedom of speech, we can respect their right, while staying better.

I agree if they disrupt just to disrupt and refuse to be engaged. We don't need to wade through roboposts, for example. Otherwise, we can expose the idiocy of their positions!

i agree...if a bunch of people who've been around a long time and i trust their posts tells me "poster x" is a troll, i investigate their previous posts and then can safely ignore them. It helps defang them.

I voted for Have an official submission thread for reporting trolls.

I think it will clear out a lot of confusion if people take it as a discussion forum rather than accusations and defence edit:or wrestling forum

If anyone sees troll-like behavior, please flag the post(s) and the moderators will take a look at it.

Thanks. :)

I see a lot of people get called trolls simply because of the number of, or rather lack of posts they have. I believe that name calling is a terrible way to treat new members to the forum. We put up threads welcoming former Thompson and Hunter supporters then if they sign up and start posting we call them trolls. Good way to run people off if you ask me. We are not going to get what we want to accomplish done, if we do not pull together and work as a growing grassroots force. We need every person we can reach to get onboard this effort to get our guy to capitol hill.

As far as those who are constantly posting whinning negative stuff...off with their heads :)

You "geniuses" parroting the line "don't feed the trolls" are completely ignoring the fact that we are trying to get new converts here. If you don't label the trolls, people will start to think that Romney isn't a bad guy after all etc.

Whatever. Trolls can vote too.

Personally I think a lot of you guys must be new to forums if you think we have a troll problem. The biggest problem is people won't stop making a thread or post that says OMG TROLL.

We haven't been invaded by 4chan, no massive gay porn attacks, no dead animal spams... you guys don't even know the meaning of trolling...

That may be so, but I think our bad or incompetent troll hunter population significantly outnumbers our good troll hunter population. I personally consider this to be an equally serious, if not more serious, problem than the trolls themselves.

Then don't. They rarely engage me and I can kill their threads in one or two posts.

when joining u could answer a question such as:

"So you're saying we should take our marching orders from Al Qaeda?"
A) Yes, but that's just because the terrorists are right.
B) NO! I'm saying we should take our marching orders from our constitution!
C) It's not Al Qaeda I'm taking marching orders from, it's the American people.
D) War-mongering propaganda cannot persuade the voters from seeing the truth that we should be going after terrorists, but doing it by working with other nations as well. Nation building is not what America is all about.

I didn't vote...I'm kinda torn on how to deal with trolls; don't get me wrong, they exist, there's just not a whole lot of them.

But the trolls that are out there are getting smarter, and more disruptive.

I did want to mention, before ya'all go around screaming TROLL just because you don't agree with a post, please click the poster's name. From there you can "find all posts by user" and go back through their old posts and see if they display consistent troll behavior. If they do, report it to the mods using the little red & white triangle icon at the top right of the post.

The ignore list can also be a wonderful function if you are having problems with particular posters.

Official submission thread for reporting trolls coupled with ignore should handle the problem. Problem is we would probably all end up reported.

Trolls crave one thing - attention. They get off on outraged replies, name-calling, deprecations about their mothers and sisters, et al. Don't give 'em what they want and flag their posts for mod review, and they'll starve to death right in front of your eyes and blow away.

Private messaging the "troll" can come in handy, inform them privately with a message similar to:

"It'd be a Privilege to have you remain here, I'd hate to see you get banned for this post __insert link___. Consider revising it."

Have faith they can act mature and rational, and more importantly, BE the example of that. If they continue their behavior, use the report post http://www.ronpaulforums.com/gfx_RedWhiteBlue/buttons/report.gifbutton with a description of what you had said to them already.

I have reported several Troll-seeker trolls, with no success. I don't think the mods act unless the person is bashing Dr. Paul directly. The damage done by these Troll-seeker trolls to other forum members is high though, which indirectly effects Dr. Paul. I think a troll forum would work wonders!
