PAUL: Keeping It Real
The Corner's Lisa Schiffren thanks Ron Paul for livening up the GOP field: "I certainly understand the temptation of supporting Ron Paul. That pure, small government, libertarian world view is wonderful -- and it is what drew so many Reaganites to politics in the 1970s and 80s, when big government ideology was entirely dominant. ... The real problem with Paul, as a political actor, is not that he isn't doing well in this race. It is that he has maintained such ideological purity in his years in office that he has been consistently ineffective. ... Still, it is good to have his voice in the debates, reminding the GOP what the real standards are, or should be, at a time when so many of our political leaders believe in the chimera of a large conservative government."

see, this reporting makes me angry. "yes, let's applaud him for having integrity and principles as all politicians should have, but silently chuckle cause he's a political joke".

WTF is that? really? If these people really did admire him for his principles they should be encouraging more to rally behind him. Have that fire for change, have the spirit to motivate others, not make them more comfortable in their "choose the lesser evil" mentality.

"Consistently ineffective?" How can you be "effective" in the sense that they are using it when you are the lone voice in all of Washington. Not like he can get much of his legislation he wants passed. In my opinion, I would say he is extremely effective although his goals are different than all the other Congressman. Towards the end of this speech (http://mises.org/multimedia/mp3/aefm/Paul.mp3 if that is the right one) Ron explains what his goals have been as a Congressman.

I love how everyone complains that politicians are corrupt and that we need to "clean up washington", then say that men of principle are quant and ineffective, therefore we should just continue to vote for the slick politicians. Anyone who is principled is not considered a "frontrunner" but rather and "interesting voice".

This is the problem with people in politics. They think that getting anything passed is better than nothing. I would much rather the congress do nothing than crap. Maybe when RP is president we can talk to him about pushing through a bill that will make the Congress like the Texas Legislature, where they can only meet on odd number years. That way every other year we get a break from bad legislation.
