Economic Stimulus Package = Take $200 billion off the people and give it back to them. (minus the many bureaucratic costs)

It's an old Keynesian scam that politicians love because the costs to the people remain hidden.

When the markets finally do crash, they can just point the finger at that crappy free market and call for more and greater government stimulation packages.

It's a short minded attempt to "spur the economy" or "stem off recession". Ron Paul usually argues against measures like these because they fail to focus on the roots of our problem and actually contribute to inflation. The Bush tax rebates are the stir of the moment.

Here's what Ron issued just today: www.ronpaul2008.com/prosperity

I've said this before. People will not spending the money on items. They will be paying off their massive accrued debts with it that were run up during the "good" years.

That money they're handing back was spent when daddy bought that beamer he couldn't really afford, or that $500,000 McMansion that mommy absolutely adored (and couldn't really afford).

It's called the American illusion, and these past few years with low interest rates and easy credit people truly indulged themselves in this illusion. "Living beyond our means" is how Ron Paul puts it.
